The ultimate guide to choosing the best kids’ water bottle
Did you know that according to the British Nutrition Foundation children should aim to drink about six to eight glasses of fluid per day? And what better way to encourage them to drink more than by giving them a funky water bottle!
That was our reasoning when we started to plan our new ranges at the end of last year. Not only would water bottles be a great addition to our kid’s stationery ranges but would also help kids drink more and use less plastic. A bit of a win-win all round!
So, it got us thinking about what makes a great water bottle? Interesting designs and appealing colours are one thing, but what should it be made of? How big should it be? Just a couple of questions we asked before we got on with the fun task of product development!
So, to save you the time, here are all the things you need to consider before you purchase a kid’s water bottle.
Check how the water bottles are made
Our water bottles are made from stainless steel, and not just any stainless steel, but 304 grade stainless steel. But why is this so important? Well, it means we’re using the same stainless steel that is used in equipment for food preparation, which makes our water bottles much more heat resistant and less likely to corrode or rust.
Naturally, this means they are so much better for storing your drinks as you won’t have any nasty chemicals leaching into them. For the metallurgists among you – it’s all about the molybdenum, a silvery-white metal that is highly resistant to corrosion!
Ensure they are good for both the environment and your health
As stainless steel drinking bottles can be used time and time again, they help reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles, which is great for the environment, but you’ll also want to make sure they are BPA-free and Phthalate-free.
BPA and phthalates are plasticisers which are found in items such as food packaging, canned food and even in toys. In fact, they are known as ‘everywhere chemicals’ they are so common! But there is evidence to suggest that they aren’t great for our health, so it’s better to avoid them if you can. With our water bottles for children, you won’t need to worry.
